Threads

2008 marks the 30th anniversary of Moving into Dance Mophatong. This celebration will culminate in a season at the Wits Theatre from 23 – 26 October 2008 featuring a new choreography “Threads” and the electrifying “Ek se Hola”. “Threads” which is a cross cultural and cross generational artistic collaboration between legendary choreographer and cultural activist the founder of MIDM, Sylvia Magogo Glasser and Lebo Mashile. Mashile is one of South Africa’s celebrated young literary voices who has just published her second book of poetry. “Threads” seamlessly merges dance and poetry. This piece can be thought of as a verbal dance or a physical poem. “Ek se Hola”, choreographed by Gregory Maqoma, draws parallels between township dance forms and the contemporary world of dance creating a new vocabulary that remains uniquely South African. Join us for this spectacular season of dance that truly exhibits thirty years of dance experience. Bookings open at Computicket from mid September 2008.
